"Bella" Went From Abandoned Dog
to Bed Bug Scent Detection Professional

"Bella" is a beagle who was rescued from Columbia County Animal Shelter in Lake City, FL, and enrolled in a rigorous four-month bedbug scent-detection training program with Pepe at J&K Canine Academy, Inc. Bella has also been certified by the National Entomology Scent-Detection Canine Association. Bella is particularly well-suited for this work, both because of her temperament and the fact that she is a beagle. Beagles are a breed of dogs which are classified as scent-hounds.

Bedbugs can hide in alarm clocks, baseboards, upholstery and other locations which may not be readily inspected by the human eye. This is just one reason the services of a trained bed bug dog may be invaluable to a property owner or management company. When Bella and her handler make a sweep of a room, Bella alerts Sarah of the presence of the odor of live bedbugs or viable eggs. Sarah can then communicate to you exactly where our trained scent-detection canine found the odor, so that an extermination professional can do a more targeted job, reducing the use of pesticides and interruption to your business.

When a human visually scans a room for bedbugs, he or she is between 30 to 40% accurate and takes 30 to 45 minutes. Bella is more than 90% accurate and takes only 3 to 4 minutes to totally sweep the room and identify the location of the scent of live bedbug eggs, nymphs and adults.

Bella can find bedbugs in your property.

Bedbugs are most active at night and feed primarily on human blood. Because 50 to 60% of the population ARE NOT ALLERGIC to bedbug bites, you may have the presence of bedbugs long before you have a severe infestation problem. You can rely on both our training and sensitivity to your situation.

Bella undergoes daily training and positive reinforcement for snooping out the scent of live bedbugs. Both she and Sarah will be re-certified annually by the NESCDA. Sarah understands the need for discretion and confidentiality in providing this service to you.

DISCLAIMER: While no building bedbug inspection can be 100% accurate, the use of a trained,
canine bedbug-inspection team is the most accurate means of detection currently available.
The result of the inspection is an honest evaluation of the premises by the canine’s keen sense
of smell and the educated opinion of the certified handler. However, the certified handler is not a
licensed pest-management professional; therefore, final identification and eradication of bed bugs
must be done by a licensed pest management professional.
